A few days ago a discussion ensued among my closest Scale Modeling friends about the Mirage III series speed brake, or airbrakes and the details underneath them. Some, me included, believed it was a see through well (I.e. if the brakes were opened you could see through the wing all the way to the other side) and some believed it was solid.
Our Peruvian colleague Amaru Tincopa from Antarki Models, Perú came to settle the argument for good with some great images from his collection.
Turns out neither of Us was 100% right or wrong as you can see in these images correspond to the Mirage VP but should be the same for the rest of the family. There seems to be some sort of bulk in between both speed brake wells but it has two orifices going through the wing with the Hydraulic actuator just on one side (bottom).
Really interesting detail that I think will be useful to any modelers out there willing to build these airbrakes deployed.
Thanks to Amaru for his great collaboration to all the Mirage fans and don’t forget to visit his page in Facebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/Antarki-Model-Kits-Per%C3%BA/134774536570515
